The process for transferring a firearm from a storefront to MoreauWorks is mostly a straightforward process. Some gun stores want nothing to do with California and wont ship a firearm to MoreauWorks. You can either find another gun store or use Shipmygun.com. This is typically done for intrafamilial transfers. Check out the intrafamilial transfer tab for more info.
Some gun stores and online vendors are very risk adverse. They may not send firearms or modify firearms to make them California compliant. We offer a middleman service to get around this. Check out the middleman service tab for more info
Typically, the process for a storefront transfer is as follows:
- Pick the firearm you plan to purchase from the store.
- Confirm with the store they ship to California.

Intrafamilial transfers are similar to normal firearm transfers, just with some added steps.
For the legalese, transfer and gift are used interchangeably.
To recap, intrafamilial transfers can occur between 'direct' decedents - in the sense that it is up and down. For example; everyone in the following list can transfer to each parent or child, but not sibling or partnership. Grandmother, grandfather, mother, father, son, daughter. So grandmother can transfer to grand daughter, mother can transfer to son. But mother cannot transfer to father (married couples, etc), nor can son transfer to daughter (no sibling transfers). Cousins, uncles, nieces, nephews, and the like are unable to transfer if those are their roles in the family.
This is typically one of the popular routes to obtain off-roster handguns.

Typically, the process for an intrafamilial transfer is as follows:
- Confirm with direct family member that they are able and willing to perform the transfer.
- Once the firearm has been acquired, a letter of gift must be generated. We made our own template such as this one here: Letter of Gift Template
- Package the firearm unloaded and with no live ammo, include the filled out letter of gift and ship it out.

Middleman transfers are similar to normal firearm transfers, just with some added steps. Our middleman is Wojtek Weaponry
Middleman services exist to bring firearms that are not California compliant into California. The way this process works is the firearm in question gets shipped to our middleman who converts the firearm into a California compliant version. This compliant version gets sent to us, and the background check is done as normal. This is done this way because California considers assault weapons as 'untouchable' if it enters the state as an assault weapon. The firearm must enter California in a compliant configuration.
Pricing for middleman services is a bit different than just transfer fees. Middleman-ing a firearm requires coordination and multiple shipments. If the firearm to be middleman is ordered directly from MoreauWorks, there is no additional surcharge. However, if the parts and labor to configure the firearm for compliances are excessive ; for example, if a pin and weld and a longer muzzle device are required, then the cost of that is charged. If the firearm to be middleman is not ordered directly from MoreauWorks, say from Gunbroker instead, a $150 dollar transfer fee, parts and labor, will be charged.
This is typically done with only long guns. Middleman transfers do not get around the handgun roster.
Typically, the process for a direct order middleman transfer is as follows:
- Pick the firearm you plan to purchase from MoreauWorks and pay for it.
- The firearm is ordered with the shipping addressed to Wojtek Weaponry.
- Wojtek Weaponry receives the firearm and makes it compliant. They then ship it to MoreauWorks
Typically, the process for a middleman firearm not ordered from MoreauWorks is as follows:
- Pick the firearm you plan to purchase on whichever website you are on.
- Confirm with Wojtek Weaponry that they can middle man the firearm.
- In the checkout process, there is typically a list, a map, or some sort of directory to search Wojtek Weaponry up on.
- After selecting Wojtek Weaponry as the receiving FFL, finish the checkout process and the order should be sent to them automatically. If the vendor requires a copy of their paperwork - feel free to reach out to Wojtek Weaponry.
Sometimes, online vendors do not ship out firearms when the billing and shipping addresses are in different states. If that is the case, reach out to Wojtek Weaponry to have them purchase the firearm directly.
Once the firearm is received, come in to do the background check.

Single Shot is the method in which we manufacture off roster, roster exempt firearms. Single shot is achieved buy using a .25 ACP barrel liner or similar caliber, or installing parts that make it operate in break action only. Single shot means that the pistol must be only able to shoot a single round. In order to reload the pistol, is must 'break apart'. For AR pistols, this is achieved by plugging the lower receiver such that the BCG cannot cycle. In order to shoot and reload the AR pistol, you would have to remove the upper from the lower, remove the BCG, remove the spent casing, load the new round with the BCG, and reattach the upper to the lower. For .25 ACP single shot firearms, the barrel liner is placed in the ID of a barrel. To operate the firearm in .25 ACP requires dissembling the firearm to load a round in the barrel and line up the extractor. The recoil of .25 ACP is too weak to cycle the action.
